The Chinese Heritage Museum is a time capsule from the 1950’s when the Chinese migrated to Singapore. At this time, the tale unfolds with a look back at the shophouse living conditions and the difficulties the Chinese experienced with their new culture. Today, set in three restored shophouses resembling those of the past, learn about their hardships and how they coped with a new life in a new country.
There are several cheap hotels right in Chinatown close to the Chinatown Heritage Center in Singapore. One example is the low-cost Santa Grand Hotel Lai Chun Yuen. Chinatown is vibrant, lively, and colorful. Staying close to the Chinatown Heritage Centre you’ll gain knowledge about the philosophy and beliefs of the Chinese by walking around Chinatown’s five districts. Plus, with the sights and smells, you’ll feel like you’re in China proper. On the other hand, today is somewhat different from the era of migration. Today, you’ll only learn about what is was like then, not experience it.
There are fifteen different show galleries on three levels. General admission is $12 for adults, $8 for children, and seniors over 65 get in for free. If you’d like a guided tour, add $5 to each ticket. Chinatown is accessible by an underground rail line, MRT, bus, and taxi. You’ll walk away with an understanding of their religion and culture.
