More About Hotels near Don CeSar...

The Intriguing History of the Don CeSar

The Don CeSar is registered as a historic hotel of America. Alternately known as the “pink palace” for its signature coloring, the location was a playground for history’s known and notable including Clarence Darrow and F. Scott Fitzgerald. During World War II, the hotel served as a hospital and convalescent center, then become the VA Regional Office and recreation center in 1945. After a $3.5-million restoration, the pink palace reopened as a hotel once again in 1973.

Since its reopening, the stunning location has served as the site of the movies “Once Upon a Time in America” and “Forever Mine,” the Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers MTV video special, and the “Thunder in Paradise” Hulk Hogan pilot. The hotel continues to service such elite guests as Justin Timberlake and Elton John.

Staying Near the Don CeSar

The Don CeSar occupies its own private stretch of beach, so it’s difficult to get a good view of the hotel from other nearby accommodations. Guests who want to stay within a short drive of the Don CeSar can book a room at the newly constructed Hotel Zamora just to the north. The beachfront Long Key Beach Resort* offers budget travelers a comfortable option with gulf-front suites and one- or two-bedroom apartments.

Enjoying the Pink Palace from Within

If you want to immerse yourself in the full Don CeSar experience, you can book a room in the pink palace itself. This luxury hotel features 277 guest rooms and suites on 7 miles of private beach. Relax at one of two beachfront pools, luxuriate in the rooftop lounge of the Spa Oceana, or enjoy a scoop of homemade ice cream from Uncle Andy’s Ice Cream Parlor.

The Don CeSar is also home to the Maritana Grille, which ranks as one of the top 10 seafood restaurants in the country. The resort offers on-site activities for every age, from water sports to the Camp Cesar children’s retreat — though you will have to tear yourself away from the comfort of your room for these amenities.
