“The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page.”
Just east of downtown Toronto, the Distillery District was once the home of the Gooderham and Worts Distillery, the world's largest distillery back in the late 19th century. Today, it's a National Historic Site in Canada, as well as one of the hottest new neighborhoods in Toronto. The Victorian-era architecture remains, transformed into residential lofts, art galleries, shops and restaurants. With bricked streets and more than 40 heritage buildings, the area has a unique charm. Events are held here almost every weekend, and the old-fashioned annual Christmas market is a highlight of the season. In the summer, Segway tours of the district cover local history on two wheels.
