More About Wailea (Maui), HI Hotels...

Planning Your Visit Around Wailea's Perfect Weather

The South Maui community of Wailea experiences temperate climates year around, so it’s always a great time to visit. But, if you’re looking to skip the busy tourist season and peak hotel rates, then late March through late May and September through December are ideal. Temperatures average around the 75-degree mark with regular afternoon showers.

June, July, and August are the busiest months for the Wailea community and the beaches, golf courses, and local activities can become crowded as a result. The average temperature during the summer is 85 degrees with occasional afternoon highs reaching the 90s.

Finding the Best Spot on the Shore

Wailea is over 1,500 miles of beachfront property and picturesque accommodations. But, the southern end of the community near beautiful Makena Bay is where you’ll find fewer crowds and more nature. The Makena Golf & Beach Resort is the main hotel in Southern Wailea and offers inexpensive lodging options.

With oceanfront views and short walks to the popular Shops at Wailea, the Wailea Beach Marriott Spa and Resort is the main resort to the north and offers low-cost accommodations in a central location.

The Affordable Hotel Options Keep Coming

Maui is a tourist hotspot and hotel rates reflect the island’s popularity. With that said, Wailea is known as one of the more inexpensive communities on the island with accommodations like Hotel Wailea, which is a little further from the ocean and Maalaea Bay, but is closer to the gorgeous Kula Forest Reserve.

A little further up the coast the cost-friendly hotel options expand to include the Days Inn Oceanfront, the Mana Kai Resort, and the Aston at Maui Hill. But don’t let the low rates fool you, because these accommodations are just steps away from Kamaole Beach Park, which has one of the most breathtaking sunsets on the entire island.

A Luxurious Island Stay

If you have room in your travel budget to splurge on your accommodations, then Wailea has plenty to offer in terms of luxury resorts as well. The Four Seasons, The Fairmont Kea Lani, and the Grand Wailea by Waldorf Astoria offer all the golf, spa, and dining amenities you could ask for in a Hawaiian vacation.

Although the accommodations mentioned above are a bit more expensive, rates do fluctuate during the year. If you want to go the luxury route, but you don’t want to pay full price, book your stay in advance and aim for dates that fall within the pre and post-summer off seasons.

What To Do in Wailea

There is no end to activities in Wailea and the fun starts by the shore. Wailea Beach, Ulua Beach Park, and Poolenalena at Kapua’Ikea Point all offer visitors miles of sandy beaches and crashing waves.

Just west of the Wailea community is Kula Forest Reserve, which is a nature lover’s dream complete with miles of hiking trails and bird’s eye mountain views of Maalaea Bay and Kaho’Olawe Island. For all-things Wailea, the Visit Maui website has tons of great information as does the visitor center in nearby Kahului Airport.
