Budget hostel-style lodging near Upper Hot Springs, Banff

The Banff Y Mountain Lodge is hostel-style hotel located in the Upper Hot Springs area of Banff, Canada.  The hotel truly feels like a lodge surrounded by woods with a backdrop of the mountain. The lodge is nearby to popular Banff sightseeing spots, shopping and entertainment venues.  Many reviewers have remarked at the Banff Y’s convenient location to everything needed: only a five-minute walk from the shops.

The lodge is close to many of the area’s major sightseeing points; some within walking distance and others just a short drive away.  Explore the nearby Banff Cascades of Time Gardens, the Bow Falls, and Central Park.  The Upper Hot Springs and Banff Gandola are also ideal sites for exploration and near the lodge.

Simple, hostel-like rooms

The room rates at the Banff Y Mountain Lodge are much less than other hotels in the area.  The lodge is able to offer this rate because it only provides the basics: a bed, bathroom and telephone.  On some floors, guests share a bathroom with a shower across the hall - similar to European hostels.  The rooms are inspired by the minimalist concept of the budget hostel which gives guests a great rate in a popular tourist area but without the amenities.

The bottom line

The Banff Y Mountain Lodge's rooms are a great option for travelers who plan on spending the day exploring the area and simply need a place to sleep at night.  The restaurant offers great food at a reasonable price, and the coffee in the café is fantastic.  Banff Y, situated close to major sightseeing spots, shops and entertainment shopping and major sightseeing spots, is an excellent choice for active travelers on a budget.
