Landmark Hotel on the Magnificent Mile

Premier Shopping District

The Drake Hotel is an iconic, luxury property. Offering award-winning service and opulent decor, staying at this Chicago landmark is a glamorous experience. Sought after for weddings and exclusive events, the interior decor at this hotel is breathtaking at every turn. Found on Michigan Avenue, also known as the Magnificent Mile, this hotel sits among designer shopping, fine dining, and the city's best entertainment venues. Additionally, guests of The Drake Hotel can walk to the Lakefront Trail and beach.

Celebrity-Class Dining

While designer fashion boutiques on the Magnificent Mile are at the hotel's doorstep, guests can visit The Drake Arcade to browse the luxury shops of Chanel, George Jensen, and Kamp Galleries. If an evening of fine dining is on your itinerary, there's no need to brave the Windy City. This hotel has multiple on-site options, including Coq d'Or and Drake Bros.

For an elegant afternoon, join diners at Palm Court for The Drake Tea service. Don't skip the bar at The Cape Cod Room; you can still see where Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe carved their initials shortly after they married.

If you enjoy working up a sweat on vacation, the 3,000-square-foot fitness facility at this hotel is sure to have everything you need. A fully equipped business center is available for travelers who need to stay connected to their office.

Ask the doorman to hail a cab for you and travel down to Millennium Park. This park is home to the famous mirror sculpture called Cloud Gate, Buckingham Fountain, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Just south of the park, guests will find Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, and historic Soldier Field (home to the NFL's Chicago Bears).

Elegant Comfort

With quality wood furnishings, Italian marble bathroom fixtures, and traditional decor elements, rooms at The Drake will please luxury seekers. Little extras, like lighted makeup mirrors, private minibars, and flat-screen TVs, just add to the comfort. Guests traveling with their children will appreciate the more spacious family rooms that include a second bathroom. For an extra-special getaway, splurge on a suite. Suites at The Drake include a separate parlour area and a Hilton Serenity by Serta mattress. Additionally, guests staying in suites receive exclusive access to the Executive Lounge.

Be sure to ask for a room on the north side of this hotel for stunning views of the beach and Lake Michigan.

The Bottom Line

This hotel is a great choice for a special occasion or for travelers who prefer a touch of history with their luxury. While the exterior of this hotel may not seem especially impressive, the interior architecture is where this hotel really shines. The Drake Hotel has made great efforts to preserve and maintain the original design, so don't expect contemporary or modern style, like the ultra chic W Chicago Lakeshore hotel.

While The Drake and the neighbouring Waldorf Astoria both service luxury travelers on Michigan Avenue, the Waldorf Astoria offers more modern design and costs about double the price.
