Convenient Location: Nyhavn (New Harbor) District

Copenhagen Strand, a member of the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group, is a nautical-themed hotel in Nyhavn, Copenhagen’s waterfront, canal, and entertainment district. Formerly a warehouse, the building’s brick interior walls add to the rustic charm of the property. Amenities at this 100% non-smoking hotel include a business center, self-service laundry, luggage storage, and tours and tickets help. The hotel permits dogs to stay in certain guest rooms.

Walk or Bike to Points of Interest

Walk four minutes from the hotel to brightly colored townhouses dating to the 17th and early 18th centuries. Spend time in Nyhavn’s many restaurants, cafés, and bars.  Amalienborg Palace, the royal family’s winter home, is 10 minutes away on foot. Car-free Strøget, a popular shopping street, is a 20-minute stroll from the property. The Copenhagen Strand rents bicycles for those guests wanting to explore the area’s many parks and bike paths.

Memorial Anchor

Walk or bike to the end of Nyhavn to view the Memorial Anchor, a tribute to the more than 1700 members of the Danish navy who lost their lives during World War II. The anchor is from the Frigate Fyn, constructed in 1872 and docked at a Danish naval base during the war.

Veteran Ship and Museum Harbor

Nyhavn has a section of harbor reserved for the Veteran Ship and Museum Harbor. Restored ships owned by the Danish National Museum are on the south side of the canal. Privately owned ships are on the north side of the waterway. One of the ships in the harbor is The Boat Theatre, an 1898 barge used as a theatre since 1972.

Harbor Views and Seafaring Décor

Guest room décor includes seafaring prints. Among the room amenities are cable television, radio, telephone, and minibar. Free wired Internet access is available. (Borrow a cable from the hotel’s front desk.)

The Bottom Line

This centrally located restored hotel in Nyhavn is perfect for guests who prefer to go sightseeing on foot, by rented bicycle, or by taking local transportation. There is an extra charge of .75% to 3% for guests paying by credit card. The nearby Wakeup Copenhagen – Borgergade, opened in 2014, has an interior painted primarily in white and lacks the warmth of the Strand.

Expert Reviews
You can't stay closer to the harbor than here. Just a five-minute walk from Nyhavn, this pleasant...
Michelin Guide
Centrally located hotel in a 19C former paper factory on the harbourside. Comfortable, functional bedrooms, in light maritime colours, are furnished in polished wood.
In keeping with its harborfront location, many of the old-fashioned architectural details of the building have been retained, and the maritime theme is reflected in the decoration in the lobby.
