15th-Century Palatial Home

Sweet Poetry

The Benivieni Hotel*, once the poet Girolamo Benivieni's home, now offers 15 completely restored and renovated luxury rooms in the heart of Florence's historic district. Although the rooms are not overly large, the hotel's central location near every major in-store attraction provides tourists an excellent option. The classic 15th-century home combines its blended classic charm with modern amenities for a truly local experience.

Home Styled Retreat

With enough amenities to earn full-service hotel status, you may still feel a homey character asthe  Benivieni Hotel lacks some large-hotel amenities like a swimming pool. The property is smoke-free and includes a snack bar and deli, cocktail lounge, and breakfast available for a fee. An on-site concierge offers advice for local tourist attractions, but the lobby is small. With the renovation, all the rooms have been soundproofed and the building now has an elevator. A porter is available to carry your bags.

Everything Is Next Door

There are at least six major attractions within 500 meters of the Benivieni Hotel's front door. These include major attractions like the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo), the Piazza del Duomo, Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, Giotto’s Campanile, Dante’s House, and the Piazza della Repubblica. Being in the heart of downtown, many options for dining and shopping are also available within easy walking distance.

Small but Modern

Surprisingly, despite only 15 bedrooms the hotel has four room categories. Modern amenities await within each room including a standup shower only, a bidet, modern flat-panel TV, free Wi-Fi, limited room service, air conditioning and climate control, an in-room safe, and a desk for business travelers. Other items are available by request including cribs or infant beds and hypoallergenic bedding.

The Bottom Line

Like the Hotel Degli Orafi, a former medieval convent with a 13th-century tower, the Benivieni Hotel is an old Florentine residence put to moderns use. If you enjoy bed and breakfasts and smaller hotels that offer personal service the Benivieni Hotel would be a great choice. Its location in the heart of the historic district provides an excellent base for tourists seeking convenient access to most attractions. Being able to stop in at your hotel room during the day to refuel or rest is an added bonus. It may lack the spacious lobby and amenities of bigger hotels, but rhe updated rooms offer a big-hotel feel.
