The Cumulus Kaisaniemi: A Good Sleep In Central Helsinki

A Family Friendly Hotel That Fits Your Budget

The Cumulus Kaisaniemi is a family friendly hotel for travelers who want a clean room at a reasonable price with a central Helsinki location. The Cumulus offers the most popular amenities, including free wi-fi, breakfast buffet, and luggage storage. The hotel’s rates are slightly lower than comparable properties in the area, like the Sokos Hotel or the Hotelli Arthur.

Easily Accessible by Rail and Metro

The Cumulus is conveniently located in downtown Helsinki, easily accessible from the subway and railway station on foot. The neighborhood has a broad range of restaurants, stores, and night clubs, including some of Helsinki’s popular live music venues. The huge Kluuvi shopping center and elegant Gallery Esplanad are also very close.

A Central Location to Explore Helsinki

A free breakfast is always a great way to start your day, and the Cumulus offers a complete buffet. The Helsinki Strip is right outside the hotel, so you can walk to many of the city’s best attractions. The Ateneum Art Museum, Senate Square and Helsinki Cathedral are all less than 10 minutes away on foot. Within 15 minutes, you’ll find the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art and the Presidential Palace. When you return to the hotel in the evening, you can relax in the sauna, catch up on work in the business center, or enjoy a nightcap in the hotel lounge.

Bring Shower Shoes

The Cumulus earns its name with murals of fluffy clouds on the ceilings of the rooms. Aside from that whimsical touch, the rooms are fairly standard for a European hotel. Guest rooms and bathrooms are small, but clean and comfortable. All rooms include free wi-fi, cable tv, hair dryers, safes and desks. Blackout drapes are a necessity this far north in summer, when daylight hours are long. All rooms include a private bath, but the showers are wet-room style, so the bathroom floor gets soaked after anyone bathes. Be sure to bring shower shoes to keep your socks and feet dry.

The Bottom Line

The Cumulus is a fairly typical European hotel, priced slightly lower than comparable hotels in the area. A great location and helpful, multi-lingual staff compensate for the wet-room style showers, which are not a favorite with most travelers. The hotel is not fancy or luxurious, but it offers clean, comfortable rooms and all the amenities travellers need at a great price.
