Sunny and Sandy Stays on Main Street

Inspired by nature, the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel is across the street from the shore and close to outdoor activities to enjoy during the day. When you've had your fun in the sun renting surfboards, kayaks, ocean rafts, and beach chair sets on the eastern edge of Waikiki's beach district, walk through the colorful surfboard-studded lobby for some strolling and shopping on Kalakaua and Kuhio Avenues. Eat like a local on Kapahulu Avenue, then grab an authentic shave ice or sip a Kona coffee while brushing up on your history along the Waikiki Historical Trail. The Iolani Palace and the Aloha Tower are some of multiple attractions near the hotel, and family fun at the Honolulu Zoo is only two blocks away.

Amazing Amenities

The open-air lobby, which is adjoined to the outdoor heated pool, offers hotel guests access to free Wi-Fi. For a daily resort fee, the hotel provides a list incentives, which includes access to the Internet and fitness center, but the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel breakfast on the beach is one not to miss. Start mornings with a version of a Hawaiian favorite, the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel "luau": a hearty breakfast and entertainment with live Hawaiian music and hula dancing. For afternoon dining, take the Polynesian-inspired cuisine from Tiki's Grill & Bar to the beach in the travel cooler provided by the hotel for a snack to-go or sit and delight in live entertainment on the silky sand in front of a 30-foot stylized volcano that glimmers under the moonlight.

Premium Views for Enticing Pricing

Vibrant colors, funky decor, and Indonesian teak furniture extend from the lobby to each guest room and suite, and rooms are complete with flat-screen TVs and optional access to the PlayStation 3 Blu-ray console. Wake up in the morning with a fresh cup of java from the Keurig coffee maker. Looking for gorgeous views? Many of the 664 guest rooms feature full or partial views of the ocean, and they have access to private balconies, providing the perfect backdrop for memorable photographs. Standing 20 floors above the sand, request a room from the hospitable 24-hour front desk that is away from the bustle on the beach and opens to stunning vistas of Diamond Head.

The Bottom Line

On or off premise, guests have primetime access to local culture, flair, and tropical wear minutes away from their exotic and fun accommodations. The family-friendly hotel provides free stays for children under 17, and kids even receive a free coloring book and crayons at check-in. Looking for a more romantic staycation? Opt to stay at the Hotel Renew by Aston, a designer boutique hotel that incorporates natural elements into its decor, enhancing the oasis experience. Stays include one signature cocktail per guest (21 and over). The vintage feel of the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel will maintain its tropical essence while being remodeled. Consult the website for further information about renovations and closures from September until December 2014.

Travel + Leisure
Toward the quieter eastern end of Waikiki this family-friendly hotel packs 800-plus rooms into a high-rise across the street from the beach.
Go for a room with a private lanai, and check out the ‘50s-style Tiki’s Grill & Bar with its hand-carved wood masks.
The location of this hotel, directly across the street from the beach, couldn't be better, especially when coupled with the hotel's unique "Breakfast on the Beach."
Tip: For the best rate, check the website under "e-specials," or choose one of their package deals.
This 645-room hotel looks and feels like a shopping mall, with chain restaurants on the ground floor, an escalator to the lobby, and service that seems to emphasize speed over personal touches.
