Beautiful Makena Beach and Golf Resort

Located just 8 miles south of beautiful Kahului on Hawaii's Wailea Island, the Makena Beach and Golf Resort is exactly what the name promises: thousands of feet of beautiful beach and dozens of holes of championship-level golf, with a four-star hotel square in the middle. While that might seem like an adults-oriented destination, inexpensive day care combined with a 'kids stay free' policy makes Makena Beach and Golf Resort for families, as well.

An Array of Inexpensive Amenities

Without even leaving the chevron-shaped walls of the resort, you can enjoy an array of amenities that include a  pool, free Wi-Fi, a daycare with its own children's pool, and several dining options that range from casual to formal. The Makena Beach and Golf Resort's breakfast buffet is free and delicious to boot! Low-key dining options include a snack bar, a deli, and even a convenience store on site -- or you can pick up something at the poolside bar while you enjoy some sun. Finally, don't forget to stop by the Makena Beach and Golf Resort's spa--it's famous for a reason.

Outdoors: Sand and Sand Traps

Just outside in one direction, a private sandy beach with ample opportunities for snorkeling, swimming, and boating. For a small fee, a beach cabana can be yours to enjoy while your family suns and swims. A variety of aquatic activities are available from the beach, including snorkeling and sailing lessons as well as boat tours of the island.

In the other direction, 18 holes of golf including a putting practice area and a set of tennis courts await your leisure time. If you'd like to visit any of the services that are a mile or two up the road but you're reluctant to drive, bicycles are available to rent right at the roadside.

Indoors: Affordable Luxury

Inside the rooms, in addition to free Wi-Fi, you'll find granite countertops, cherry wood furnishings, and stunning views of the atrium garden or the beach from each room's private lanai. Massive flatscreen TVs make it easy to stay up and watch movies, and plush beds make it easy to sleep in the next morning. Connected rooms for larger families are available in limited quantities.

The People Make the Place

Many visitors have left their opinions of the Makena with friends, family, and online. The thing you'll hear most often? "We'll be back!"

Lonely Planet
The aloha of the staff and the stunning Maluʻaka Beach, which is just out back, vault this secluded retreat to the top of the heap.
This quiet resort (formerly the Maui Prince) has a superb location just south of Makena, in a secluded spot set on a gorgeous beach, and guest rooms all have ocean views.
