No Frills Hotel, Best Location

Budget Hotel Adjacent to Kyoto Tower

There are many options in and around the Kyoto Train Station and Kyoto Tower. No matter what other hotels may claim, the Hotel Hokke Club Kyoto is literally beside the Kyoto Tower and directly across the street from the Front Entrance to the train station, unlike many other hotels located at the rear of the station. Just do not expect luxury rooms or full service amenities.

Some Amenities

Booking a no frills budget hotel room means even the little things sometimes can make the difference. Hotel Hokke Club Kyoto offers some complimentary items to make up for the lack of other amenities. Free WiFi, newspapers, and breakfast make this budget hotel palatable. Free daily spa gifts can also get you into a relaxed state back in your room. The hotel does offer two restaurants, laundry facilities, designated smoking rooms, a coffee shop, conference space, and a meeting room for business travelers as well.

 Clean but Small

Rooms are clean and well-kept but include standard furniture without any frills. Rooms are typically smaller than American hotels, so expect a tight fit for you and your luggage. Rooms include deep soaker tubs and a bidet, two unusual amenities for a budget hotel. Daily housekeeping, slippers, and a small refrigerator are also included. Room sizes include the standard Twin, Single, and Double rooms and accommodate up to four guests in the largest size rooms.

Smack in the Middle

Kyoto was the historical seat of the Imperial Family of Japan and has literally hundreds of attractions and thousands of temples. In order to see as much as possible, a central location with easy access to public transit is your best bet. You will enter Kyoto buses from the rear and pay the fare at the front of the bus as you exit. In Kyoto, the Raku bus offers tourists three different routes that also connect with major tourist destinations, allowing tourists easy access. Subways and trains also offer affordable options.

The Bottom Line

Compared to Hotel Hokke Club Kyoto, Hotel Gimmond Kyoto is a world away from the attractions. Hotel Gimmond is a half hour north of the Kyoto Station by foot. Although it is another budget option, it is not nearly as close to the majority of the historical district and downtown attractions. If the cost difference is not significant, it would be better to stay downtown.
