Massive 3.5 Star Hotel

Quality Rooms but Light on Services

With almost 1,000 hotel rooms, you might feel like you’re staying in a mini city. Two 10-story towers provide the bookends of this structure located across the street from Kyoto Station, the major subway, rail, and bus connection hub of the city. It is also home to a massive shopping mall that allows guests the convenience of shopping across the street. Spacious, modern rooms offer a welcoming atmosphere although on-site activities are kept to a bare minimum.

Foodies' Paradise

Travelling overseas usually can be hard on your digestive system. This hotel has six on-site restaurants in which you can be assured of international quality standards. A coffee bar and lounge, a full-service buffet style restaurant, and one Szechuan and one Kyoto cuisine restaurant round out a great selection of eating options. Other amenities in the hotel include vending machines, luggage storage, concierge services, a business center, and a number of shopping boutiques.

Base Camp

With the ability to use this hotel as your base camp and Kyoto Station located across the street, all of Kyoto’s thousands of shrines, temples, and attractions are at your command with easy travel options. Just six blocks west of the hotel is To-ji Temple, the tallest wooden pagoda in Japan. Other nearby sights include the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum and Rokusonno Temple.

Depends on What You Book

This hotel is so large that not all rooms are alike. In fact, try to avoid the standard rooms in the main building as they generally are older and not as well updated. If you book a premium floor in the main building or the Japanese-style room, the luxury and style will impress. Standard rooms run from quite small to spacious. Yet if you are looking for up-to-date styling, spacious rooms and modern amenities such as flat panel TVs, the South Wing building should be your first choice. The South Wing Luxury/Family Rooms are a great option for modern and spacious rooms.

The Bottom Line

If you want to be closer to the Kyoto Station, it would be better to choose the New Miyako Hotel over the Righa Royal Hotel Kyoto. New Miyako is closer to the station by an easy five minutes and provides the option of budget standard rooms, modern luxury rooms, and quality restaurant options. However, Righa Royal does provide a full-service spa and an indoor pool.

Michelin Guide
This hotel has one older and one newer wing; guest rooms in the main building adjacent to the courtyard are the quietest.

Sister hotel to the famous Westin Miyako in eastern Kyoto, this is a popular choice near Kyoto Station due to its location near the terminus of both the Shinkansen and Kintetsu trains.

New Miyako Hotel is a large, upper-middle-range property with close to a thousand rooms in a convenient location next to Kyoto station. There’s plenty to do within a short walk, and the...
The interior of the hotel have a distinct corporate chain vibe, but rooms are spacious, with flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi. Train noise can be a problem in some rooms -- and light sleepers might want to choose rooms facing the courtyard, which are quieter.
