A Five-Star Stay Without the Price

1940s Elegance in the City Center

The Altis Avenida Hotel is an independent group hotel located in Lisbon's city center. Its vintage building has a decor that is inspired by interior design styles that were popular in the 1940s. The Avenida is decidely much more modern than the nearby Bairro Alto hotel, even though the Avenida has a vintage look. It's a five-star hotel with reasonably priced rooms that has the bonus of being near popular tourist destinations.

Steps Away From Interesting Destinations in the Historical District

Portugal was occupied by the Moors during the medieval period, and traces of their occupation are still visible throughout the city. One such remnant is the Sao Jorge Castle which occupies an important piece of geography. It stands on a hill that overlooks the city of Lisbon and the Tagus River. It's largely intact, and archaeological excavations take place. The castle provides a look into an era when all of Europe was threatened by the Moorish invasion.

For a different side of Portugese history, head to the Igreja de Sao Roque (Churck of Sao Roque) for a look at one of first Jesuit churches to be built anywhere. The exterior has a largely unassuming presence which is quickly blown away upon entering. The interior is full of baroque splendor with gilded carvings and artwork throughout. It's a beauty that's not to be missed.

Stylish Rooms With Excellent Amenities

Rooms are available in Classic, Superior, Deluxe, and Suites. Occupancy ranges from one guest to three depending on room size. All rooms have HD LCD flat-screen TVs with digital services, electronic safe, mini-bar, work station, blackout blinds and shades, air conditioning, bathrobes and slippers, and free wi-fi Internet access.

Hotel services include 24 hour reception and room service, laundry and dry cleaning, shoe cleaning, business center, public parking lot, and valet parking service. Arrangements can be made to access the swimming pool and the GSpa.

The Bottom Line

One of the major advantages of the hotel is its proximity to the metro, train station, and tourist attractions. Guests can easily walk to their destination and return to their clean and comfortable rooms. The property is well maintained, and has modern amenities throughout. Staff is friendly and go out of their way to provide assistance to guests. The rooftop cafe has a breakfast buffet, and is definitely an asset to the hotel.
