Many modern hotels seek to put guests at ease by making their rooms and lobbies as "homey" as possible. A "success" in the ethos of this type of hotel would be a guest walking in and thinking they'd stepped into a rich uncle's mansion - luxurious, but definitely still a home.

The Hotel Roosevelt is not one of these hotels. Instead of trying to make their guests feel at home, the Roosevelt strives to make them feel pampered. As a result, the hotel is still luxurious, with plenty of deep, warm wood paneling for the bed headboards, desks, and a gorgeous bookshelf in the lounge, but it still definitely feels very intentionally like hotel. The result is glorious.

Your Hotel Roosevelt Room

Just like the Hotel Roosevelt Los Angeles, the rooms in the Hotel Roosevelt Lyon are simple yet elegant. They have plush carpets, a large, comfortable bed, and a beautiful wrap-around desk that serves as both a TV stand and a possible window seat.

In addition to the complimentary newspaper and wireless internet, each room comes with a mini-bar and luxurious bath robes,  perfect for lounging around the room after a hot shower or bath. After you've had your fill of lounging, be sure to head downstairs for a fantastic breakfast buffet or a drink at the bar, depending on the time of day.

Roaming Around Lyon

Once you've relaxed to your heart's content in the Hotel Roosevelt, you should set out to explore the city. Theater lovers should definitely explore the Auditorium Maurice Ravel, an enormous structure that looks almost like an inverted dome and hosts some truly incredible performances. Similarly, the Lyon Orchestra is also only a 15 minute walk away.

If you are in mood for birdsong rather than human-made music, try a turn around the Tete d'Or Park just north of the hotel or a leisurely stroll along the Rhône River.

Don't despair if none of these options appeal to you. Lyon is a vibrant and varied city with a far-reaching metro system that can get you pretty much wherever you need to go, or you could rent a bicycle if you would like a more active way to get around.

The Bottom Line

If you are looking to feel like you are on vacation or a business trip, rather than in a home (if you want to feel pampered) consider the Hotel Roosevelt Lyon.
