Book a Historic Room at the Hotel Metropol Moscow

Enjoy a Location Steeped in History

Travelers can begin exploring the culture of Russia before they’ve even left their hotel with a room in the Hotel Metropol. The Hotel Metropol opened its doors in 1901 and continues its tradition of offering exclusive amenities and top-notch service. At the time of its opening, this was the only hotel in Russia to offer hot water, telephones, elevators, and refrigerators. Today’s amenities are no less luxurious.

Relax In a Soft Robe and Slippers

Standard rooms at the Hotel Metropol include a minibar and mineral water, everything you could need to satisfy your thirst. A bathrobe and slippers, along with complimentary bathing accessories, beg you to spend a relaxing evening in. Satellite television and free WiFi put ample entertainment at hand.

Upgrade to a junior suite, and enjoy a space adorned with flower vases, elegant paintings, and sparkling chandeliers. Both one-room and two-room suites are available. Amenities include all the features of a standard room as well as a coffeemaker, electric kettle, and tea.

Walk to the Red Square

The Hotel Metropol is conveniently located just a few blocks from Moscow’s city center. The Red Square, Kremlin, Alexander Garden, and Saint Basil’s Cathedral are located nearby. This location makes the hotel a choice destination for special events. It often hosts celebrities, dignitaries, and other public officials, so you never know who you may pass in the halls.

Dine and Drink On-Site

Dining at the Hotel Metropol is as luxurious as the accommodations. The Evropeisky restaurant is housed in a former a coffee hall. It serves fine Russian European cuisine and is hailed as one of the finest restaurants in Moscow. Those staying at the hotel can enjoy this fine dining establishment just steps from their door. If you’re not in the mood for a full meal, head to the Shalyapin bar, where you can get drinks, desserts, and light snacks. Marble columns and beautiful chandeliers create an elegant setting.

The hotel also has a swimming pool, sauna, and beauty salon on site for rejuvenating afternoons. Drop into the business center if you’re in town for work, or explore the photo museum for leisure.

The Bottom Line

The Hotel Metropol is a historical gem in the city of Moscow. Guests looking to experience the true flavor of Russia with just a five minute walk to the Red Square will find everything they could need here.

Expert Reviews
The Art Nouveau mosaic by Mikhail Vrubel that tops the Metropol's facade sets it apart in era and in style from other hotels of its class.
Perfect for drinking massive amounts of vodka (courtesy of room service) and pretending you and your fellow comrades have arrived on official government business.
It's a huge hotel (363 rooms), with a grand lobby, an even grander restaurant under a vaulted stained-glass ceiling, and fountains and marble pillars for adornment.
Avoid the seven tiny single rooms and the rooms with views over the glass ceiling of the Metropol Hall——you'll feel as if you're stuck in a broom closet.
