A Sound Choice

Serving Travelers on a Budget for Over 50 Years

For over half a century, the Hotel Amba has been a popular hotel choice for budget-minded travelers who want to be close to city center. A stone’s throw from the train station, the Hotel Amba competes with nearby hotels such as Regent Hotel and Creatif Hotel Elephant. But what separates Hotel Amba from its competitors is its attentive customer service, decades of experience, and clean rooms.

Location, Location, Location

If you’re traveling through Munich and need a quick place to sleep, look no further than Hotel Amba. This hotel couldn’t be closer to the train station. It’s also close to restaurants and shopping. You can conveniently walk to grab a bite to eat. You'll love the pizza shop next door to the hotel.

Not For Light Sleepers

The Hotel Amba is not for you if the hustle and bustle of a vibrant downtown keeps you awake. The rooms are not soundproofed, and Munich goes to sleep late and wakes up early. If you think you can overcome the noise for the location and price, be sure to bring earplugs, just in case. The hotel is older and not immune to the sounds of creaks and door slams.

Choose Your Room Wisely

The Hotel Amba offers five different room types: Single, Economy, Double, Triple, and Four Bedroom. The hotel offers you the choice between facing the train station and facing the back. Choose the back. The trains start early in the morning, and so does the foot traffic, the shouting, and the ambient city noise. The rooms vary in bed offerings, from twins, double, and queen. Some rooms also include a sofa.

Room Amenities are Basic

Although Hotel Amba gets many things right (clean rooms, budget prices, convenient location), you should not expect frills when staying there. You will have access to Wi-Fi Internet and a breakfast, but both carry a surcharge above your room tariff. Also, there are no tea or coffee kettles in the rooms. Rooms come with a basic shower, a television, radio, hairdryer, and blackout curtains. On the plus side, there is an elevator, and newspapers are complimentary in the lobby.

The Bottom Line

If you are looking for an inexpensive hotel close to city center and the train station, the Hotel Amba is a reasonable choice, however the city noise may annoy sound-sensitive travelers.
