Budget-Friendly Hotel in Manhattan

Penn Station at Your Doorstep

Situated right across the street from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, you could not ask for a more convenient place. The Garment District and the Flatiron Districts come together right at the hotel’s entrance. The Empire State Building and Macy’s Herald Square are only a block away. You won’t have far to go to visit the Statue of Liberty, Broadway, SoHo, Greenwich Village, Chelsea Market, Ground Zero Museum Workshop, or Union Square.

Affordable Dining Options On-Site

New York’s Hotel Pennsylvania has four dining options on the premises offering food 24 hours a day. The Statler Grill is a New York-style steakhouse and seafood restaurant. Lindy’s Restaurant is just inside the main entrance and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Lindy’s is famous for their New York style cheesecake. In the lobby of the hotel is City Perk, a café that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For a quick breakfast or cup of coffee for the road, Tim Horton’s is accessible from 7th Street just in front of the hotel.

Inexpensive Rooms for Every Type of Traveler

The Hotel Pennsylvania offers a variety of room options for couples, families, business travelers, and groups. Choose from twin, double, or king size beds in multiple combinations to fit your needs. Complimentary access to the fitness center and in-room Wi-Fi is available for all guests. Select rooms offer mini refrigerators and flat screen televisions. The Hotel Pennsylvania is pet-friendly and is the host hotel for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in February.

The Bottom Line

With 1,700 rooms available in the heart of Manhattan, the Hotel Pennsylvania has some of the best rates in New York. The rooms are not the fanciest you have even seen, but they are clean and up to date. The Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden Area Hotel is only a block away but double the price. The Wyndham New Yorker offers more up-scale rooms but their prices are a bit steep as well.

Hotel Pennsylvania deals are best for the traveler who plans ahead. Book your room as far in advance as you can to get the best deals. Since it sits directly across the street from Penn Station, it is really easy to get to the hotel. If you have tickets for an event at Madison Square Garden, you can’t get any closer than this and the rates are amazing. Don’t miss a trip to the Empire State Building and head into Lower Manhattan for great food and sightseeing.

Expert Reviews
Insight Guides
The place is still huge, and though rooms are a bit bland and anonymous, they are good value and close to Midtown attractions.
Lonely Planet
The rooms are adequate (although the beds aren't the most comfortable) and a fair value among the overinflated prices of NYC lodging.
Gayot
The 1,705 rooms are decorated nicely, albeit schizophrenically, with streamlined and modern looks in some rooms and French rococo accents in others.
