The Nice Saint Georges Offers a Good Price and a Great Location

A Haven for Budget Travelers

The Hotel Saint Georges is a reasonably priced hotel by Nice standards and offers a basic room at a good price for budget travelers. The location is excellent for exploring Nice and the surrounding countryside by train, and there’s plenty of shopping nearby. The building is older, but has that authentic Nice French/Italian personality that’s hard to find in American chain hotels.

Around the Corner From The Train Station

The Saint Georges is situated just around the corner from the Nice Ville train station, so it’s a great place for weary European travelers to set down their packs and for Eurail-pass explorers to make a base on the French coast. There are plenty of drugstores and other small shops nearby to pick up any toiletries you may have forgotten. Tip: It’s best to do your shopping during the day or on the Avenue Jean Medecin as the area right around the train station can feel a bit dodgy, especially at night.

The City Center is Right Outside Your Door

Enjoy your morning coffee or tea and a newspaper in the lobby, and then set out to explore Nice. You’ll find the Nice Etoile Shopping Center right around the corner on Avenue Jean Medecin. The Avenue overflows with shops and restaurants. When you’re ready to rest, grab a table at a sidewalk café and watch the stylish French shoppers go by while you sip your tea or coffee. The Nice Tramway runs right down this Avenue and will whisk you off toward the beach or the city’s famed Flower Market.

Choose a First-Floor Room if You Need Strong Wi-Fi

The rooms at the Saint Georges are not especially stylish or luxurious, but they get the job done. Every room has air-conditioning, a private bath with a tub/shower, and a desk. The first-floor rooms have the strongest wi-fi signal. Attic-style rooms on the top floor have sloped ceilings and skylights, but the elevator doesn’t go all the way up, so those rooms are only a good choice for backpackers and travelers without luggage.

The Bottom Line

Hotels in Nice are notorious for being expensive while still managing to be dingy and small. The Saint Georges is a welcome variation, offering a good price, a convenient location, and clean, comfortable rooms. It's location is hard to beat if you want to be near the train station.
