Hotel with Modern Appeal in Central Oslo

Loft-like Accommodations with an Affordable Price Tag

The bright, modern design of the Scandic Victoria Hotel, formerly the Rica Victoria, resembles a trendy loft apartment more than the mid-size hotel that it is. The open, airy spaces and clean lines of the furnishings and decor set this Oslo hotel apart from many in the neighborhood.

Guests enjoy free Wi-Fi, the convenient on-site bar and restaurant, and complimentary buffet breakfast. The hotel offers a variety of room styles including an economical standard room; a superior room with a bit more space; a superior extra room, which boasts a lounge area; and the modern Presidential Suite with a separate bedroom area. The suite has a small conference table and chairs, as well as plenty of room to host a gathering or entertain without the guests sitting on the bed.

Americans may be surprised to find that the windows in the rooms open, but the front desk controls the climate of each room. Some rooms face the outside, while others have an atrium view.

Leave the Car at Home

Parking in Oslo is expensive. The Scandic Victoria Hotel is centrally located, however, so travelers needn't worry about renting a car. From the hotel you can walk to the waterfront and the Astrup Fearnley Museum; Aker Brygee, the well-known entertainment and shopping area; and Johans gate, a popular strip known for its bistros and high-end stores and as the home to many of Oslo's attractions such as the Parliament building, the Royal Palace, and the National Theatre.

Guests can catch a bus about a block away from the hotel for the short ride to the Norwegian Folklore Museum. It's the world's oldest open air museum. The museum's Stave Church at Gol, with its foreboding 12th-century architecture, is worth the trip alone.

The train station that houses the express train to the airport is less than a quarter-mile from the hotel. Guests who don't wish to explore the town on foot can do so on bike with the hotel's complimentary bike rental service.

The Bottom Line

The Scandic Victoria Hotel serves up modern Norway in a delightful and affordable way. Its central location makes it the perfect home base for a visit to this delightful Scandinavian city. The former Rica Victoria hotel's reviews continue to be among the best in this city in their price range. After a visit, you'll understand why.

DK Eyewitness
This modern hotel in the centre of Oslo has a glass atrium and rooms that all feature wooden floors, modern decor and furnishings, and city or atrium views.
If your heart is set on one of the Radissons, this hotel may come as a bit of a letdown. But its interior offers cozy comfort in spite of its foreboding facade.
Rough Guide
A large, modern hotel, just south of Karl Johans gate. Its two hundred spacious rooms have every convenience, and it’s justifiably popular with visiting business folk.
