Comfortable Accommodations Near Downtown Reykjavík

Save Money Outside of the City Center

Located just fifteen minutes from the city center, Hotel Bjork offers good value in the otherwise expensive Reykjavík. Even though it's not in the old section, the tour busses know this hotel and make stops here. Guests wishing to experience the Northern Lights or some of the natural beauty of the surrounding area, like the waterfalls and geysers, can do so by catching the excursion directly outside the hotel's front door.

Guests can also catch a bus at the nearby Hlemmur Bus Terminal for easy access to all points in this exciting city. It's only a ten-minute walk from the hotel. The Kringlan Shopping Mall is also within walking distance of the hotel.

Travelers looking to save money can buy snacks and food at the nearby market as dining out in Reykjavík is pricey.

Part of the hotel sits above an independent art gallery, a karate dojo, and the Potturinn og Pannan (Pot and Pan) restaurant. This family friendly eatery serves traditional Icelandic fare and offers a children's play area, making dining with the kids more enjoyable.

Budget-friendly Comfortable Rooms

The rooms in the Hotel Bjork are cozy and nicely appointed. Those facing north at the front of the hotel, on the third and fourth floors (or second and third if you don't count the bottom floor), offer views of the harbor and the mountains beyond. For guests staying in the north-facing rooms during the winter months, watch closely and you might be able to see the Northern Lights in the distance.

Unlike many local hotels, room temps are adjustable inside of the rooms and not controlled by the front desk for greatest guest comfort. Windows also open, and there is very little street noise in this area.

The rooms come in different sizes, including a triple, which nicely accommodates small families or friends traveling together.

While the hotel offers basic accommodations, guests are welcome to try the nearby fitness facility (for a fee) with an indoor pool and geothermal hot spots.

The Bottom Line

The Hotel Bjork is commonly confused with one of a similar name - the Hotel Borg. However, guests at the Hotel Borg can expect to pay much more for their luxury accommodations in the heart of Reykjavík. Hotel Bjork, on the other hand, is a good value for travelers who don't mind staying outside the city center.
