Charming Historic Hotel in Reykjavik's Old City Centre

Stay Close to it All and Leave the Car Behind

If you love the idea of a quaint but functional hotel in downtown Reykjavík, check out Hotel Reykjavík Centrum. Located on one of Reykjavik's oldest streets, it's right next to the parliament building and Settlement Museum. Other nearby attractions include the Harpa, a concert hall, and the area's main shopping district.

While the hotel is newly renovated, it's also steeped in history with parts of its building dating to 1764. The older structure is flanked by newer buildings that share the charm of the original construction. 

Due to its central location and available transportation to/from the airport (not included with the room), a car is not needed. Winter guests will appreciate the central location of this hotel even more because walking great distances in frigid temps is not as comfortable as a summer stroll. 

Try a Studio Apartment

While guests appreciate the history of this hotel, they won't want for modern conveniences. Each room comes with a TV, free Internet access, a mini fridge, hair dryer, and coffee/tea service. 

If you're traveling with a few friends or relatives, upgrade to the studio apartment. This modern room boasts a sleeping area partially separated from the kitchen by a cabinet. The kitchen provides the basics for guests including a hot plate, refrigerator, sink, microwave, and more. It's the perfect way to save money on meals in an otherwise expensive city. 

The decor of these apartments is a delightful mix of modern conveniences with antique furnishings that reflect the design of the hotel itself.

These rooms are in a two-story building without elevator access, so guests with mobility issues should request a first floor room.

Enjoy French Cuisine in Iceland

Fjalakötturinn is the hotel's French restaurant. While food is prepared in traditional French ways, the dishes have a decidedly Icelandic feel, with many of them focused on the wealth of the sea. For visitors who want to sample the dishes, they offer a 6-course tasting menu of some of the restaurant's most popular meals. 

Also at the Centrum is the Uppsalir Bar and Cafe. This cozy spot provides a selection of cocktails and wines as well as a lot of variety for a small menu.
