Value and Comfort at the Baldwin Hotel, in the Heart of San Francisco

What Do the Rooms Include?

The 60 rooms spread over 10 floors at this recently renovated European-style hotel are decorated in calming creams and neutral colors. All rooms include cable TV, work area, free Wi-Fi, a safe, hairdryer, and an iron/ironing board, as well as a fan and operable windows. Some rooms also feature claw-foot bath tubs. The Baldwin is justifiably proud of its daily towel origami – expect your towels to be shaped like swans, crabs, elephants, and more by the creative housekeeping team.

What Amenities are Available?

Free Wi-Fi is available in public areas, and there are free tea and coffee beverages in the lobby 24 hours a day. Restaurants and other dining options are within walking distance of the hotel’s central Union Square location. Airport shuttles and car parking can be arranged for a fee by the staff, who are consistently praised for the quality of their customer service.

What are the Rates Like?

Hipmunk rates for this property start at $108 per night for Doubles, $114 for Queens, and $128 for Doubles with Two Beds (taxes are additional), which is great value when compared to many other hotels in San Francisco, particularly in this sought-after location. It’s recommended to book in advance, particularly around events such as Chinese New Year.

What’s There to Do Nearby?

The hotel is located in the heart of buzzing Union Square, only a block away from Chinatown’s Dragon Gate and a few minutes’ walk from public transport including the BART and San Francisco’s famed cable cars. The area is a shopping mecca, with big names such as Macy’s, Saks, and Bloomingdales all within a stone’s throw.  The theatre district is also in easy strolling distance.

What’s the Bottom Line?

The Baldwin is an ideal choice for all types of travelers who believe in the mantra of location, location, location. With good value, clean and comfortable rooms, and renowned service, the Baldwin makes a top choice for visitors looking to spend time in beautiful San Francisco without breaking the bank.

Rough Guide
Given its bustling location on the edge of Chinatown, this is a surprisingly quiet bolthole offering relief from the noisy streets.
San Francisco'€™s famous Chinatown Dragon Gate is adjacent to this ten-story European-style hotel, which was renovated in 2010.
Feels a bit like a city inn; there are barely any on-site amenities (only a computer for guests' use), but rooms -- albeit a tad small -- are quaint.
