The Shilla: A Leading World Hotel

As a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, this world-class establishment guarantees a luxurious stay. In fact, the Shilla Seoul was not only selected as one of the top 500 hotels in the world by Travel & Leisure but also the Best Hotel in Seoul. Not content with accolades alone, the 426-room Shilla Seoul was recently refurbished to further enhance its amenities. The hotel combines traditional Korean aesthetics with modern sensibility. The cutting-edge Shilla Seoul also features elegant restaurants, a top-of-the-line spa, and its own shopping center and duty-free shop.

Historical and Serene Location

In addition to its elevated status, its prime location bordering the 23-acre Janchungdan Park sets the Shilla apart from many other Seoul hotels. The park is considered a landmark of patriotism because it contains the 1919 Independence Movement of Korea Memorial Stone, located at the foot of Namsan Mountain. Other notable sights in the historical Jung District include the Gwangtonggwan, the oldest continuously operating bank building in Korea, which is registered as one of city’s protected monuments, and Deoksugung, a palace that was inhabited by Korean royalty until after the turn of the 20th century.

Timeless Modernity

World-renowned hotel designer Peter Remedios designed the Shilla’s "Timeless Modern" rooms, which boast stunning views of either the city or Mt. Namsan. All of the Shilla’s guest rooms and suites include goose-down duvets, minibars, satellite TV, complimentary Wi-Fi, shower and tub, robes, slippers, and hair dryers. Guests also enjoy other hotel amenities, such as the indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, fitness center, indoor golf range, meeting rooms, computer station, wedding chapel, and a walking path that winds through the hotel’s sculpture garden. On-site dining options include restaurants that serve French, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cuisine, as well as a bakery and 24-hour room service.

The Bottom Line

Its enviable location, exquisite rooms and abundance of amenities conspire to make the Shilla Seoul the leading luxury hotel in this mega-metropolis. It took top honors six consecutive years in a row in Zagat World’s Top Hotels, Resorts and Spas international poll, even beating out the Ritz Carlton* and upscale W Seoul*. Zagat also applauded the Shilla’s staff, stating that they are “always willing to help make this upscale stalwart a heavenly way to Seoul.”

Michelin Guide
This top-class hotel has a legendary reputation for high-quality service and has played host to many foreign dignitaries.
The location is a bit inconvenient if you want to be in the middle of it all, but it's great for those looking for a quieter place to stay.
