Luxury Hotel Overlooks Singapore’s Shopping Attractions
Eager shoppers know they have picked the right hotel the minute they check into the Mandarin Orchard Singapore amidst the bustle of Orchard Road. This four-and-a-half star hotel was designated the best hotel in Singapore this year at the International Hotel Awards for a variety of reasons, but avid shoppers will tell you it is due to the hotel’s Mandarin Gallery, four stories of on-site luxury shopping.
Prime Shopping Location on Orchard Road
Mandarin Orchard's outdoor swimming pool with its fabulous view overlooking Orchard Road; fitness center; and outdoor tennis court, all make up for the fact that the airport shuttle isn't free. Fortunately you have Singapore’s amazing MRT public transportation system right at your doorstep. The Somerset station is just a five-minute walk away.
On-Site Southeast Asian Fine Dining for Foodies
Foodies flock to Chatterbox to get their share of the renowned Mandarin Chicken Rice, the hotel’s feature item that has been on the menu since the restaurant opened more than forty years ago. Chatterbox is open for buffet breakfast and so is Triple 3, named after the hotel’s address on Orchard Street.
Diners also love to visit the new Sichuan restaurant, Shisen Hanten, to say they have dined with Chef Kentaro from Japan. Try his spicy noodle soup or the stewed chili pepper fish filet! Grab dessert at Coffee and Crust, and then close out your evening at Bar on 5 enjoying the DJ.
Sophistication Meets Opulence in Contemporary Rooms and Suites
All of Mandarin Orchard’s rooms combine elegance with Southeast Asia’s trademark cutting-edge modernity. While Standard and Mandarin Premier Rooms are the most basic options, Premier Rooms do boast a skyline view. If you want to treat yourself, ask for a room that comes with club privileges. You’ll enjoy the utmost in elegance from the marble bathtub to getting your laundry pressed daily. You’ll also have access to daily cocktails and appetizers in the evenings at the Meritus Club Lounge where children under twelve are not allowed.
For an unparalleled luxury experience, book the Presidential Suite, which includes a full kitchen along with a dinner table that seats fourteen. If you must work, the table doubles as a conference table with teleconferencing capabilities. The double bathroom sinks coupled with the comfort of the massage jets in the shower can’t be beat.
The Bottom Line
Five-star Grand Park Orchard is nearly the same price as Mandarin Orchard and is located a quarter mile to the north just across Orchard Road. It even offers its own four-story retail center called Knightsbridge. Some guests will prefer the Grand Park due to its on site spa, but the dining options at Mandarin Orchard are far richer and target foodies.
If your budget allows, consider the Singapore Marriott hotel in the same vicinity on Orchard Road. While this epitome of luxury is significantly more expensive than the Mandarin Orchard, it receives flawless reviews from guests. There are no complaints about their staff, and all rooms have been renovated.
