About Hipmunk

We are a small team located at 434 Brannan St. in San Francisco doing our best to take agony out of travel search. Our website, iOS apps, Android app, and mascot, are all beloved by our users.

Hipmunk was founded in 2010 by Steve Huffman, co-founder of reddit.com, and Adam Goldstein, founder of Booktour.com and O'Reilly's youngest published author, with the aim of making online travel search less painful.

Engineer (frontend, backend, or full stack) - San Francisco, CA

We are looking for well-rounded engineers to join us. We have a close-knit team and unusually challenging work to do! We have beautiful experiences to build, scalability & performance to … um … make, and lots of data to dig through. You could be responsible for developing new features-- frontend or backend (or both!), implementing airline, hotel, and other partners' APIs, or sys-admining. Generally, you should be competent at all things technical and love this stuff.

iOS Engineer - San Francisco, CA

Android Engineer - San Francisco, CA

We're looking for a talented and experienced Android engineer. We have received a number of accolades over the past year: Editor's Choice, Best Apps of 2014, AndroidNiceties, and at least half a dozen other Google Play featurings. Site Reliability or DevOps Engineer - San Francisco, CA

We pride ourselves in the great customer experience we provide, and that means apps that are speedy and available. This is even more important as we grow the number of customers we have, size of our development team, and platforms we support. We're looking for someone to take charge of this.

You'll drive proactive projects to reduce risk or make our systems and engineering lives easier to manage. You own, based on your specific experience, our deployment tools & processes, configuration management, performance testing and tuning, security, capacity planning, logging systems, DBA & sysadmin duties, test environments, and technical operations strategy & processes.

In addition, you'll ensure we react to incidents appropriately:

  • Implementing appropriate monitoring and alerting to shorten the mean time to response and recovery (MTTR)
  • Responding to and resolving issues we encounter
  • Learning from and addressing the root cause(s) in order to avoid similar issues in the future
  • Communicating to key folks during and after the incident informing them of the incident, impact, and resulting plans & actions

You won't be expected to fix everything yourself but it's important you become the person we can look to with confidence to take charge and drive the issues to the ground.

We're hosted in Amazon Web Services (EC2) & our server stack includes Python, Redis, PostgreSQL, HAProxy.

We have lots of things to do, and we can't do them all at once, so we also want someone who has good judgment on where to best invest their time and is a very good communicator.

Requirements

  • Have performed technical operations duties for a high-traffic, transactional site or platform.
  • Know your way around a unix shell and are confident in your scripting abilities.
  • Familiar with the entire web stack: frontend, the application layer, caching, and databases.

Director of Business Development - San Francisco, CA

Hipmunk is looking for a Director of Business Development to join our growing team in San Francisco, California. The Director of Business Development will manage relationships with a variety of partners including airlines, hotels, and OTAs. This position offers a breadth of challenges along with the opportunity to have a measurable impact on our growing business. You will be joining an established team within Hipmunk and will work both independently as well as be mentored by your teammates as necessary. This position offers exposure to multiple teams across the company and requires frequent interaction with the CEO.

Requirements:

  • Passion for building a great company that is a leader in the travel sector

Director Retention Marketing - San Francisco, CA

We're looking for a bright, enthusiastic individual who has experience in all key areas of Retention Marketing. This role reports to the Vice President of Marketing. Key functions of this role include: 1) managing all retention channels including email and push notifications 2) developing and executing retention strategies and associated revenue targets 3) working cross-functionally to define product requirements.

This is a cross-functional role that interfaces with other key areas of the business. It requires strong communication skills and data-driven decision making. We are growing rapidly and this role needs someone who can think creatively and continuously iterate on the most effective strategies to increase traffic from retention channels.

Responsibilities:

  • Self-starter with ability to develop strategy, execute and monitor performance
  • Ability to think creatively about how to increase traffic from retention channels
  • Results oriented with experience owning and managing retention programs and outcomes
  • Ability to scope and document product specifications to build new functionality resulting in increased engagement

Product Manager (All Levels) - San Francisco, CA

We are seeking innovative product managers with a proven track record of building compelling consumer products on web and/or mobile. The position requires a self-starter who enjoys working with cross-functional and collaborative teams, has a strong analytical mind, is a great contributor, and is passionate about consumer experiences and Hipmunk. The individual will be responsible for planning, defining, and executing on a product roadmap for multiple features on Hipmunk's web product and/or mobile apps.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide product direction and improve product strategy to accelerate company growth
  • Use fresh thinking to create new product plans in an established industry
  • Work with Engineering, Design, and Marketing to deliver innovative ideas and specifications
  • Conduct and lead data analysis for product initiatives

Product Manager – Connections & Content | San Francisco, CA

Hipmunk is hiring a Product Manager to lead our Connections and Content Strategy. The position requires an independent self-starter who enjoys working with cross-functional and collaborative teams, has experience with partner integrations, has a strong analytical mind, and is passionate about travel and Hipmunk. The individual will be responsible for planning, defining, and executing on a connections and content roadmap on all verticals, across Hipmunk's web and mobile products.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the overall connections and content product roadmap, with the goal of improving business metrics and the customer experience.
  • Identify and prioritize partner integrations based on opportunity and business impact.
  • Integrate with new 3rd party supply partners from business requirements to implementation and business results.
  • Monitor and manage connections between Hipmunk and our various partners across multiple platforms and verticals to help ensure the overall quality of our sites.
  • Identify, track, and solve connectivity issues across Hipmunk's sites.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business development, engineering, design, and data science.
  • Conduct and lead data analysis.
  • Present findings and business cases to the product management and the leadership team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, CS/EE/Engineering degree a plus

Office Manager | San Francisco CA

Hipmunk is looking for an Office Manager to join our San Francisco based team! We are looking for an energetic self-starter to make our office function at its absolute best and to support our growing team. We are looking for someone to be the face of Hipmunk, who is eager, passionate, patient, and able to think on his or her feet. This person will work to create a wonderful work environment for our employees as well as make all of our visitors feel comfortable and welcome. This is a full-time position. This person will report to Brit Malinauskas, Operations & HR Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and host all in-office visitors
  • Maintain a positive, helpful, and inviting attitude
  • Keep the office fully stocked with supplies by taking inventories, ordering items, and working with suppliers
  • Help set-up new employees work stations and assist HR with on-boarding new employees
  • Maintain, create and distribute all office procedure documents to employees
  • Manage all of our catered meals (work with vendors to curate menus, communicate updates to our team, manage deliveries, and donate leftovers)
  • Schedule and monitor any required or routine facilities maintenance
  • Maintain a clean, organized and functional office at all times
  • Help with space planning, growth, and making our office an overall wonderful place to work
  • Prepare the office for all meetings and events and provide employees with the tools to join, share and host meetings
  • Make design and office improvement suggestions and implement approved proposals
  • Receive and distribute all mail and packages

SEO Coordinator - San Francisco, CA

Hipmunk is looking for a talented person who has heavy content marketing and analytical experience to work alongside our SEO lead. The ideal candidate is content-oriented yet analytical, and will help us aggressively scale our content marketing efforts. He/she will manage partners, work alongside our content vendors, and analyze the link building efforts of our competitors to come up with new strategies. Additionally, the individual will also be responsible general SEO reporting and analytics. If you are interested in all things content and are passionate about travel, this is a great position within an awesome company.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in SEO and Social Media Marketing
  • Experience using SEMRush, SEOMoz, aHrefs, and other tools to perform keyword research and backlink analysis

Live Chat Operator - San Francisco, CA

Hipmunk is looking for a Live Chat Operator to join our San Francisco based team! We are looking for someone who is eager, passionate, patient, and able to think fast and solve problems on their own. This role will allow you to work alongside and grow with all of Hipmunk's teams, including Operations, Commerce, Marketing, and Engineering. You will get a well-rounded insight into the company as a whole and be a vital part of our Customer Service team. This is a full-time, hourly position.

Responsibilities:

  • Chat with users in a kind and respectful manner
  • Respond to live chats and support emails
  • Build itineraries, share helpful travel tips, find and report bugs, and QA new products
  • Create data driven customer service reports to distribute to the team
