Today I announced that I’ll be leaving Hipmunk at the end of the year.
Why? For two reasons: because I’m ready to take a break to focus on other things, and because the Hipmunk team is ready to take over.
Instead, I’m going to be focusing on things I love that I haven’t been able to devote enough time to: spending time with family and friends, advocating for the change I think our city and country need, writing, pursuing new hobbies, and learning about industries besides travel.
Those are all things I’ve been interested in for a few years. But it was essential to me to stick with Hipmunk until I could be sure we’d thrive when I left. Now, more than ever before, I believe the team working at Hipmunk and SAP Concur are the right people to take us into the future. This team is in the best place it’s ever been, with knowledgeable, creative, and effective people in every role.
The last couple years our pace of innovation has increased every step of the way—from our Concur Travel bot to Concur Hipmunk to our “right flight” redesign to the calendar-based search in our mobile app to the myriad of amazing Hack Week presentations a few weeks ago. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
As for me, I’ll still be spending a good chunk of time in San Francisco, at least for a while, and you’re always welcome to reach out. I’ll continue to be Hipmunk’s most active user, sending bug reports and feature suggestions like always.
It’s been amazing working with all of you, seeing what great people can do when they focus on taking the agony out of travel. I can’t wait to see where you take Hipmunk next.
