Dreams of Sushi

This is a Hipmunk post from Jodi Ettenberg of Legal Nomads

After an edible cookbook and foods from afar, I wanted to continue the food eyecandy on Hipmunk with this beautiful video from a Magnolia Films documentary called Jiro Dreams of Sushi.  The film tells the story of an 85 year-old sushi master Jiro Ono, who works tirelessly in his world-renowned restaurant in Japan, Sukiyabashi Jiro, as he relentlessly pursues his lifelong quest to create the perfect piece of sushi.

Michelin guides gave Jiro a 3-star rating, meaning "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey". According to a Boston.com article, “Superstar chef Anthony Bourdain has bowed down and declared his unworthiness, and the Japanese government has named Jiro a living national treasure.” But don’t take my opinion – watch the video and see for yourselves:

What does Jiro think of his work? “I don’t think I have achieved perfection,” Jiro says, “but I feel ecstatic every day.”

Looking forward to seeing the full film!
