You’re a savvy business traveler. You know how to filter for flights with the least amount of agony. You know how to search for and book the hotels you like to frequent. You know that tacking on a few days of fun after a business trip is a great way to maximize your time away from home. You also recognize that in business travel, as in your personal and professional life, there’s always more to learn. Best of all, your savvy has led you to the right place. Below are four of the most useful features for booking and managing your business travel—just in time to up your game for 2019.
Find your Right Flight right away
Earlier this year, Hipmunk launched its updated flight search design. This new search experience enables business travelers to view exactly what’s available on each flight, directly in their results. Ahead of booking your next flight, you’ll know if the plane is equipped with amenities that are important to you, like if there are outlets on the plane, if there’s Wi-Fi available (and if so, how much it costs), and even if there are snacks available for purchase.
So next time, when you’re booking a flight for a business trip, take the guesswork out of whether you can work from the plane (I spy outlets and Wi-Fi—score!) or whether you’ll have to swipe your corporate credit card for baggage fees—and choose the right flight for you.
FYI, hotels can be booked based on POI
As a leisure traveler, you’ve likely planned a trip based on a point of interest (POI)—like last year, when you took your family to San Diego to visit its world-famous zoo and booked a nearby hotel. On Hipmunk, you can easily do the same for planning your business trips.
Take your 2019 trip to SXSW, for example. You know your event is taking place at the Paramount Theatre, so once you’ve entered your search terms—where: Austin; your dates; 1 person, 1 room—into the Hipmunk hotel search page, you’ll be instantly matched with our top results. To find hotels close to your POI, simply locate the map to the right-hand side of hotel cards, and enter (in this case) “Paramount Theatre”. The hotels to the left will automatically update with results close to the venue, and include the exact distance from it along the bottom of the card.
This filtering approach can be applied to any upcoming conference, speaking event, or client dinner you have on your 2019 calendar.
Find flexibility with our Flex Dates feature
Flexible business travelers, this tip’s for you. Maybe after your job is done at SXSW, you want to spend a few days soaking in the rays by Lake Travis—if the flight price is right, of course. With Hipmunk’s Flex Dates feature, you can search multiple departure and arrival days to maximize your savings. Using the calendar in the search form, click on a date and drag your cursor over a three-day range. You can also manually add + or – up to two days to a specific date.
Who knows, maybe booking an off-peak return will save you money on your flight. Actually, you probably already knew that, you savvy biz traveler you.
Connect to your TripIt app
Finally, let’s talk managing your business travel. Open up your Hipmunk app and slide on over to your Account tab on the right. While admittedly less sexy than the first two tabs, accessing your Account allows you to connect to the savvy business traveler’s go-to tool: TripIt. This travel app organizes all of your travel plans in one place, so you never have to spend time searching through your inbox for a flight confirmation or hotel booking. Instead, it builds a seamless itinerary in the app that you can easily share with your coworkers, significant other, and more.
Plus, if you have the Pro version, you have access to a host of additional features such as security wait time alerts, the Go Now feature that tells you when to leave for the airport, as well as terminal and gate reminders—just to name a few. So how do you connect the two? First, make sure you’ve downloaded the TripIt app and signed up for an account. You can start with the free version, or opt for the Pro version for just $49 per year. Back in the Hipmunk app, scroll down to TripIt in the Account tab and turn the the toggle to the ‘on’ position. This way, any travel itineraries you build in TripIt will automatically load to your Hipmunk dashboard, too.
