“Life is about the journey, not the destination.”
We’ve all heard it before, this slight misquotation of Ralph Waldo Emerson. And we’ve all been instructed to just relax and enjoy the ride.
Unfortunately, planning the ride is usually not so enjoyable. Just the exhaustive nature of repetitive searches is enough to sap the escapism fun out of planning any trip: Did I search for a Thursday through Saturday flight or was that Friday through Sunday? And did I already check the Hilton? Or was that the Hyatt?
If the preceding paragraph alone gave you empathy anxiety, the introduction of Hipmunk’s new “Trip Planning” tool should help lower your stress level. In line with Hipmunk’s quest to provide the fastest, easiest, and most comprehensive online booking experience, this set of features helps you organize all the different elements of the travel process.
For instance, “Trip Planning” saves travelers the agony of repetitive searches by allowing you to group searches into specific trips, save favorite flight itineraries or accommodations, and review and filter trip activity in one place. Plus, you’re able to access those travel details seamlessly across all your devices.
The feature also let’s you share your trip details with others, an ideal function for group trips where individual travelers have differing points of origin.
Here’s a rundown of “Trip Planning” features:
When you visit Hipmunk and run a flight or hotel search, the query gives you the option to categorize the search under a specific trip name. For example, let’s say someone is planning a summer vacation and runs a flight search to Maui, they’ll then be prompted to save their search to a trip. Once the trip is named (e.g. “Summer Vacation”) they can add additional searches to that trip, making it easy to compare whether flights to Maui or Oahu are the best deal, or if a vacation rental is a better option than a hotel.
When running so many searches in pursuit of ideal flight times or the best accommodations, it’s easy to lose track of the ones that are the most suitable. With “Trip Planning,” you can mark your favorite options, so you can then come back and easily identify the top choices for each trip.
Last year Hipmunk announced Hipmunk Anywhere, which allowed logged in users to access their recent searches across devices. “Trip Planning” expands this feature and allows you to access saved trips across devices.
The activity manager houses all search, trip, and favorites activities in one place. Conveniently accessed from the account settings tab, logged-in users can simply click on the drop-down menu, review and filter trips, and monitor prices to decide what and when to book.
