Labor Day Weekend may be weeks away, but savvy travelers looking to score one last deal before summer officially ends should mark their calendars for the first week of July, when, according to historical Hipmunk data, flight booking prices for the three-day weekend reach peak savings.
Trending Labor Day Weekend Destinations
To help take the work (SWIDT) out of travel planning for the holiday, we found the most popular Labor Day Weekend destinations so far this year along with the median booking price.
Surprise—it looks like American travelers are trading their poolside grills for a croissant at a sidewalk cafe: The most-booked destination so far this year is Paris, France (the No. 1 destination at this time last year, Orlando, FL, has dropped three spots to No. 4). Las Vegas, NV has also dropped from the No. 2 slot to fourth, with Seattle, WA up two positions and London holding strong YoY in the No. 3 slot.
Granted, there’s still plenty of time for domestic destinations to catch up (international bookings tend to happen further in advance), but so far the data show that European destinations are seeing a big boost so far this year, bolstered by new routes and lower prices (thanks, LLCs!) and Labor Day Weekend’s September date (hi, Shoulder Season!). Last year, only four European cities cracked the top 20.
Here’s what we found:
|Rank||City||Price. 2019||Price 2018||% Change|
|6||Las Vegas, NV||$320||$346||-8%|
|9||New York City, NY||$319||$327||-2%|
|10||San Francisco, CA||$298||$345||-14%|
|12||Los Angeles, CA||$261||$319||-18%|
|19||Fort Lauderdale, FL||$277||$292||-5%|
