Calling all business travelers—as you set your goals for the year ahead, might we suggest one more for you? Book your business trips sooner.
How much sooner, you ask? Six weeks in advance of your departure date. By doing so, you can save an average of $200 per domestic flight.
The Savings Sweet Spot
We analyzed economy class flight bookings made through Concur Hipmunk—our small business offering which launched last September—and found that small business travelers tend to book later and at a higher price point compared to leisure travelers. More specifically, we found that 50 percent of all business travelers that booked their flights via Concur Hipmunk did so within two weeks of their departure date. Meanwhile, just 31 percent of Hipmunk leisure travelers booked two weeks prior to departure.
Our analysis also found that business travelers’ average booking price for domestic economy flights rose by 43 percent when booking five days prior to departure as compared to six weeks out.
So next calendar year, plan to book your business trips six weeks ahead of time. Not only will you save your company money, you’ll impress your leader with your business travel acumen, too.
